Metadata for Wikimedia Commons

I have been waiting for proper support for metadata in MediaWiki for years now. Now, the Commons community has started to push for it:

The idea is to embed some code into license tags and the image information template. That code would be handled by an extension to generate proper RDF. This way, information about the authorship, source and licese of images would finally become available via an API.
